Most GEF scholarships can be used at any 2-year and 4-year college/university, CPCC, and other accredited post-secondary schools. All are renewable for 4 years based upon the recipient’s academic performance. Four scholarships are restricted to the University of NC at Charlotte (UNCC) College of Computing and Informatics and are part of a scholarship partnership with Red Ventures that is administered by UNCC.

How to Apply for a GEF Scholarship

Click here to access the 2021 GEF Scholarship Application. The GHS College Adviser, Ms. Odaly Rivas, will also post the 2021 GEF Scholarship Application link on GHS college digital platforms. You can start your application at any time. Once you submit your application you will receive a confirmation email with a link that allows you to keep updating and revising your application until the April 1, 2021 deadline.

UNC Charlotte/Red Ventures/GEF Computing and Informatics Scholarship Partnership Program

This scholarship package offers full 4-year funding to 4 GHS graduates each year who attend the UNC Charlotte College of Computing and Informatics. The package comprises scholarships from Red Ventures, GEF, and the UNCC- CCI as well as well a Federal grants and work-study funding based on your FAFSA. GHS candidates for this program must participate in the Red Ventures Road to Hire Pathways program while at GHS.

Step 1: Visit to sign-up for the Red Ventures Road to Hire Pathways program at GHS and to find out how to apply for the Red Ventures scholarship
Step 2: Complete your FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Step 3: Submit your application to UNC Charlotte
Step 4: Submit your GEF Scholarship Application
Step 5: Complete the UNC Charlotte scholarship application on the NinerScholars Student Application Portal
Step 6: Selection notifications will come from UNCC Scholarship Office and Red Ventures

Reminders About College and Scholarship Applications

  • Visit the GHS College Adviser webpage.
  • Complete the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible after it opens on October 1, 2020 to be eligible for the full range of financial aid for college. A completed FAFSA application makes you eligible for Federal grants, scholarships, and other sources of financial aid. For example, the maximum Pell Grant for 2020-2021 is $6,345.
  • Visit the webpage for Career and Technical Education (CTE) at GHS.
  • Applying for college and scholarships is a new experience for you, having questions is expected. Don’t hesitate to ask for help.
  • Complete your college applications as early as possible.

  • The GEF scholarship selection process considers applicant academic performance, personal merit and experiences, and financial need.
  • GEF selects the recipients of the scholarships that GEF administers.
  • GEF does not require a FAFSA for the scholarship application process.
  • Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
  • All GEF scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s school to pay tuition and fees.
  • GEF reserves the right not to award all or some of the identified scholarships and to revoke or reduce scholarships when recipients receive larger scholarships.</small
  • All GEF scholarships are contingent on availability of GEF funds.
